Agar Agar



A little disaster happened over the weekend. I ran out of sugar; one of the essential ingredients in baking. And so I didn't bake albeit having so many new recipes that I wanted to attempt!  Lucky me, I had a packet of store bought agar-agar mix and a can of longans. And I spent the next hour in the kitchen making agar agar. 

I have fond memories of eating agar-agar during my childhood, and I vividly remember how jie would add 1 or 2 drops of red coloring so that our agar-agar turns out to be pinkish. Girls like pink, right? Well, at least I do when I was little. Besides agar-agar, jie would also make "Japanese Jelly", and she would add longans. I think I miss home.
