Happy 6th, Joey! Today J and I slept in and after brunch, we started preparing the ingredients to make our home-made wanton. I learned this recipe from Evelyn's parents-in-law. They were very patient when explaining how to prepare all the ingredients. I tweaked it a little and added other Chinese ingredients that I thought would make it taste better. That's not to say their recipe wasn't good! It was by far one of the best tasting wantons I ever had. But nothing beats the wanton I had in Macau with mom, Nelson and Nelson's dad two summers ago.
J and I had a really fun time wrapping these wantons. I wrapped it in a supposedly fancier way while J just grabbed the whole thing together and squeezed it. The end result? It looked the same either way. So I guess you could say his method was much more efficient. So what do you do when you have two plates of freshly wrapped homemade wantons? You make wanton noodle soup. Wasn't that obvious? So we had that for dinner and it was, let me pause here for a while, SOOOO DAMN GOOOOD. We used shrimp noodles, boiled it with chicken broth. Blanched the lettuce. And used the broth to boil the wantons. Needless to say, we finished half of the wantons that night. Couldn't resist such tasty wantons.
Moodae, if you're reading this, ask Jie to make it for you! They're soooo yummy!!!!
